When Weija is not at her desk or at an MPX distribution, she enjoys food, maybe more so than most, she loves reading about it, watching movies and shows about it, talking about it, making it, eating it. Be sure to say hi and share your favorite food or recipe with her when you see her! Alex Veague has been at Northern Illinois Food Bank since May 2019 as the My Pantry Express Senior Program Coordinator. Although she oversees many of the operational and website needs of the program, she will create graphs and charts just as soon as she will lend a hand in the warehouse. When she’s not running around with My Pantry Express, Alex is usually at home with her dog or out and about looking for her next favorite book. As a neuroscientist, though, watch out! If you catch her reading a science journal, she just might talk your ear off about the latest and greatest in neuroscience and psychobiology. Rachel Lechuga is our My Pantry Express Team Program Coordinator, focusing on customer service and data. She has worked as an organic vegetable farmer around Northern Illinois and Chicago the last few years and found a wonderful opportunity for growth at the Food Bank. She earned her B.S. in Environmental Studies with an emphasis on Sustainable Food Systems from Northern Illinois University. Rachel is our English to Spanish translator so if you have a language barrier be sure to find her! Her roots run deep in hobbies like: advocating for local food, advocating for food justice, gardening, tending to her plants, travelling, staying active, cooking, and being outside at any given moment. She is a vegetable enthusiast so if you see her be sure to share your favorite recipes or your favorite veggie! Saran Khalid is our newest My Pantry Express Team Member. As a temporary Distribution Site Lead and Admin Assistant, Saran will be overseeing our NIU School of Nursing location. She recently graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Exercise Science with a Strength and Conditioning Certificate. Currently, she is working on completing her Masters in Nutrition from UIC. Her future goals include becoming a Registered Dietitian after she completes school. Outside of work she enjoys hiking with her dog, biking, and cooking.
